Project Name: I Tell You The Truth
Client: The Scots College.
Deliverables: Custom character design, illustrations and editable website template (Squarespace).
The Challenge: The Headmaster of Scots College came to me with a clear vision: a Bible Stories website where kids and their families could revisit each week's lessons at home, in their own time. He also wanted a read-aloud feature and the option to download printable versions of each story. On top of that, the platform needed to be set up so he could manage and update the content himself once the project wrapped up.
Before:
The teachers and students were relying on printed handouts for their Bible study lessons, which were easily misplaced.
After:
An engaging and responsive website that the kids and their families can access easily
Conceptual and Design Process
Starting with moodboards to establish a visual style that would resonate with primary school children, think bold, colourful, and engaging. The Scots College mascot, a lion, became a natural source of inspiration, and one that felt particularly fitting given the lion's rich symbolism in Christianity. The client received 3 options.
Once a creative direction is finalised, the mascot is created.
Meet Emet the lion!
The main design challenge was making the website feel as intuitive as possible for young users and their families, while keeping the backend simple enough for the Headmaster to update independently. Squarespace was the platform of choice because of its ease of use. The site also needed to deliver all the requested features without adding complexity. To keep things brand consistent as content refreshed over time, a library of illustrations was built for the client to draw from whenever new stories or studies were added.
